Company Overview

Alzheon, Inc. is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a broad portfolio of product candidates and diagnostic assays for patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. We are committed to developing innovative medicines by directly addressing the underlying pathology of devastating neurodegenerative disorders. Our lead Alzheimer’s clinical candidate, ALZ-801, is an oral agent in Phase 3 development as a potentially disease modifying treatment for AD. ALZ-801 is an oral small molecule that fully blocks formation of neurotoxic soluble amyloid oligomers in the brain. Our clinical expertise and technology platform are focused on developing drug candidates and diagnostic assays using a precision medicine approach based on individual genetic and biomarker information to advance therapies with the greatest impact for patients.

Our experienced and passionate drug development team is focused on applying precision medicine, cutting-edge disease biomarkers, brain imaging and unique biologic insights to advance therapies with the greatest impact for patients. We are seeking individuals with an entrepreneurial spirit to join our team and help make the first oral Alzheimer’s disease-modifying therapy a reality for patients and their families, in a few short years.

Position Overview

Alzheon is seeking a hands-on engineering leader to serve as Principal Data Engineer, building the governed data foundation behind our clinical development, regulatory submissions, scientific analytics, and AI work. You will own the architecture and the engineering that ingests, validates, transforms, integrates, and delivers complex clinical and biomedical data with the quality, lineage, security, and reliability this work demands.

In practice, that means architecting and operating our cloud data platform and bringing clinical, biomarker, imaging, safety, operational, and external data together into analysis-ready and AI-ready products that teams can rely on without reassembling them from vendor files every time a question comes up.

This is a hands-on role for someone who has Alzheimer’s data experience or is passionate about getting intimately familiar with the nuances of disease-specific data to uncover inconsistencies, errors, and data skeletons that require substantial data clean up in a fully compliant manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design scalable cloud architecture with raw data, CDISC, curated/harmonized, and analytical layers
  • Establish ownership, lineage, access controls, retention rules, and secure exchange patterns
  • Build automated ingestion, validation, transformation, reconciliation, and publishing pipelines
  • Integrate EDC, RTSM, eCOA/ePRO, laboratory, imaging, biomarker, safety, vendor, and real-world data
  • Implement transfer monitoring, error handling, and audit logging
  • Automate data-quality rules, exception management, and operational monitoring
  • Maintain architecture diagrams, interface specifications, dictionaries, lineage, procedures, and validation evidence
  • Develop governed datasets for biostatistics, dashboards, AI/ML, and decision support
  • Set engineering standards and lead internal engineers and external partners while remaining hands-on

Requirements

  • Degree in computer science, engineering, bioinformatics, information systems, or a related field
  • 8+ years of progressive data engineering experience
  • Advanced SQL and Python skills and experience with modern cloud data platforms
  • Experience integrating complex external datasets with lineage and quality controls

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical trial or biopharmaceutical data experience, especially in Alzheimer’s disease
  • Knowledge of Medidata integrations, CDISC SDTM/ADaM, SAS interoperability, and submission flows
  • Experience with Azure, Snowflake, AWS, MLOps, or multimodal biomedical data

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
